To help new students quickly adapt to the local environment, City University of Macau (CityU) organized a traffic safety lecture and legal awareness education to provide comprehensive support for new students' safety during their studies and daily lives in Macao. These initiatives aimed to help students understand the regulatory differences between Macao and mainland China, strengthen their awareness of safe travel and lawful conduct, and thereby steer clear of various compliance risks.

In terms of traffic safety education, the Student Affairs Office (SAO) invited Police Officer Sou from the Macao Public Security Police Force to deliver a lecture for new students. As Macao implements a left-hand traffic system, its road courtesy standards and traffic regulations differ from those in mainland China, making new students prone to violating the regulations due to their travel habits. The lecture used videos of local accident cases to demonstrate the potential risk of traffic violations and remind students to avoid any fluke minds. The lecture also introduced the classification standards and corresponding penalties for traffic violations in Macao, explaining that traffic offences not only result in fines but, in serious cases, can affect driving qualifications, stay permits, and residency rights in Macao, and may even constitute a criminal offence. Additionally, he provided information on the regulations governing the use of mainland driving licenses in Macao, clarifying the permitted driving period, registration and license conversion requirements, and related restrictions. Through a drink-driving detection experience session, students gained a deeper understanding of safe driving and developed a civilized, lawful approach to travel.

In addition to the traffic safety lecture, CityU delivered legal awareness education for new students on studying in Macao, explaining various legal regulations that students must abide by while living and studying here. The sessions covered residency-related matters including student stay permit applications and renewals, address change notifications, and attendance management and residency eligibility. They clearly prohibited common illegal acts such as illegal employment, entering casinos underage, carrying goods across the border for strangers, and gambling in dormitories. The sessions also delved into key issues such as drone regulations, border entry and exit restrictions on goods, smoking bans in public places, noise control, privacy and portrait rights protection, online speech regulations, intellectual property protection, and the proper use of personal identification documents. The sessions comprehensively identified legal red lines that new students might easily overlook in their daily lives, guiding students to understand and abide by the law, and helping them avoid various compliance and penalty risks during their studies.
This educational lecture addressed the practical needs of new students, helping them quickly familiarize themselves with Macao’s traffic rules and local legal system. CityU has always placed great emphasis on safety education and legal awareness cultivation. By combining professional police seminars with legal knowledge education, the University helps new students quickly integrate into Macao, establish a rigorous sense of safety and the rule of law, and lay a solid foundation for students to complete their studies in Macao safely and smoothly.
