The Dissertation Oral Defense of three UNWTO-recommended master students from Zambia- Kessy Chirwa Simwaka, Matimba Hamusankwa, and Florence Phiri was held recently. The students conducted studies of different fields in the development of tourism in Zambia - agricultural tourism and sustainable development, hotel service profit chain, and social responsibility and future profitability of hotels, in their dissertations and arrived at meaningful research findings. Prof. Aliana Leong, Vice Rector of City U and Dean of the FITM was Chairperson of the Oral Defense Committee. Other members of the committee included Prof. Sanjay Nadkarni from Emirates Academy Of Hospitality Management, along with Prof. Li Xin and Prof. Li Xi from the FITM City U. After presentation, interaction, and internal discussion of the committee, all agreed that the three students had successfully defended their dissertations. The three students were excited upon hearing the result of their defense. They expressed appreciation at the great opportunity provided by the UNWTO to study in the FTIM. Through the two years of studying in this internationalized institution of outstanding academic level, they had been exposed to advanced research themes, ideas, and methods. The excellent academic training provided by the FITM guaranteed their adherence to logical thinking and standard methods in the process of research. They also mentioned that the academic services provided by the faculty, including SPSS training and lecture series, greatly contributed to the successful completion of their studies. Prof. Sanjay from Emirates Academy Of Hospitality Management highly remarked on the selection of subjects of the three students as they seized leading edge research fields in the development of tourism in Zambia. He also noted the standard application of research methods by the students, including fieldwork, interview, and questionnaire survey. Prof. Leong encouraged the students to make greater contribution to the development of tourism in Zambia with what they have learned in Macau. As the only faculty in Macau with both Master and Phd programs earning the TedQual (Tourism Education Quality) certification issued by the UNWTO, the FITM City U will, as always, put effort in the cultivation of MICE professionals from African countries and serve for the development of tourism in Africa.
