FUMS Students Attained Great Achievements in the 3rd College Student Case Study Competition of City Governance

Year 4 students Gan Jian Long, Jin Bi E and Zhang An Ni from the Bachelor course of Arts in Design travelled to Shanghai Jiao Tong University in late October for the 3rd College Student Case Study Competition of City Governance and won the Award for Excellent Team.

The students submitted their initial plan in mid-September and the team was able to get into the quarterfinals after a strict selection process. With a perfect integration of theory and practicality, the team showcased and analysed data of their example in terms of city governance. They stood out from the crowd and entered the plea of the semi-final with 6 other teams, namely Peking University, East China Normal University, Shandong University, Southwest University and Sun Yat-sen University.

In the semi-final, the team examined the example of “From Free Transport to Integrated Subsidies for Elderlies – the Revolution of Shanghai Senior Citizen Card System” in terms of policy advice and suggested effective solutions for ageing. Their neat presentation brought them the Award for Excellent Team.

The Case Study Competition of City Governance creates a platform for students to “utilize their talents, practise their teamwork and express their opinions on city governance. It also strengthens the students’ thoughts on the concept, method and strategy on city governance and enhances their ability to use theories to solve actual problems and build stronger social responsibility.
