City University of Macau Foundation Trust Committee held its 2017 Annual meeting on 21 November. Ms. Susana Chou, Chairman of the City University of Macau Foundation Trust Committee, Mr. Lao Ngai Leong, Vice-Chairman, Dr. Chan Meng Kam, Administrative Committee’s Chairman, Prof. Shu Guang Zhang, Rector of the University, Prof. Kong Fan Qing, Vice-Rector, Prof. Ip Kuai Peng, Pro-Rector, and others attended the meeting. The 2016-2017 Annual Work Report and 2017-2018 Work Plan of the University, and the University Foundation’s Financial Report were discussed and approved at the meeting. The Administrative Committee Report and Fiscal Committee Report of the Foundation were also presented at the meeting. Dr. Chan Meng Kam, Chairman of the Foundation’s Administrative Committee said in the Committee Work Report that it was a critical year for the City University of Macau to continue to strengthen its governance and enhance the effectiveness of its management. The University placed emphasis on different effective management mechanisms, provided greater assurance of teaching quality and enhanced academic performance. The University was committed to serving society, contributed towards nurturing talent for Macau and Portuguese speaking countries, and kept up its efforts in promoting Guangdong-Macau cooperation. Prof. Zhang Shuguang, Rector of the University, delivered a detailed report covering the areas of management, teaching and development in the academic year of 2016-2017 and outlined the work plan for the academic year 2017-2018. The Rector said in the report that the development of the University remained stable, with the standard of new intakes and the quality of teachers becoming increasingly better. The University continued to improve its academic governance and administrative management. At the same time, the quality of core teaching management was continuously strengthened and the University participated in the Institutional Quality Audit pilot scheme launched by the Tertiary Education Services Office. The University demonstrated greater academic achievements in terms of both quality and quantity and research and teaching work using the new academic platform. In addition, the University continued to seek international exchange and cooperation with world renowned overseas universities, providing teachers and students with an international learning and cooperation platform. Prof. Zhang reported that in the academic year of 2017-2018, the University would continue to improve its management mechanism, grasp the opportunity to accentuate the unique characteristics of different academic disciplines, place greater effort into nurturing talent and strive for excellence in major research areas to keep creating greater academic influence. The University would also adopt new and advanced teaching methods with a view to adhering to the quality of survival and to the characteristics of development. It would also uphold its core value of ‘students centered’ and ‘learning centered’, serve the country and contribute to Macau’s development. After listening to the report, Ms. Susana Chou, Honorary Chairman of the Foundation, hoped that based on the solid ground of comprehensive and stable development, the University would continue to improve its management mechanism and accentuate the unique characteristics of different academic disciplines, encourage the learning of Portuguese, promote academic research, increase academic influence, perform the role as a think tank for the SAR government and for the country, and to build the brand of the University. Mr. Lok Weng Gun, Member of the University Fiscal Committee approved the University’s developments and achievements during the academic year. In the Fiscal Committee Report, on behalf of the Council, Mr. Lok thanked the Foundation and the Management of the University for the contributions they had made during the past academic year. He hoped that in the new academic year, the Foundation would keep up its good work and create a better future, contribute towards the sustainable development of the Macau SAR and the nurturing of talent for the country and Macau, and to realize its mission and fulfill the social responsibility of “Rooted in Macau and Serving the Region”. |
