The University Held “The Opening Ceremony of the Department of Innovation Social Work cum Inauguration of the Society of Social Work Students”

The opening ceremony of the Department of Innovation Social Work cum Inauguration of the Society of Social Work Students were held at Ho Yin Convention Centre on 13 December. Officiating guests included Mr. Dai Ruming, Deputy Director, Social Affairs Department, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macau Special Administrative Region, Ms. Vong Yim Mui, Director, Social Welfare Bureau, Mr. Paul Pun Chi Meng, Secretary General, Caritas Macau, and Prof. Shu Guang Zhang, Rector of the University. Prof. Kong Fan Qing, Vice Rector of the University delivered the welcoming remarks. Prof. Kong said that the establishment of the new faculty marked further efforts by the University to provide training for promoting professional social work in Macau, nurture professional talent with international vision for Macau and the adjacent areas, to service, and build a sustainable society. The Macau Research Centre for Healthy Urban Lifestyle under the Faculty of Innovative Social Work was established on the same day. The Centre seeks to build a healthy lifestyle for Macau, promote the concept of urban health and put forward recommendations and ideas in this area based on its research. The Society of Social Work Students was also officially established. Under the witness of guests attending the ceremony, key members of the Society pledged to school leaders and students of the University that it would encourage fellow students to care about the community and promote social development, to demonstrate the spirit of ‘society’, ‘family’, and ‘human’, and to convey the message of caring society. Prof. Chen Yu Chia, Associate Professor, Department of Social Work, Taiwan Tunghai University was invited to speak on “Future Trend of Social Work Education” and shared with attendants the development of social work education and Taiwan’s practical experience. Dr. Elsa Tsang, Senior Programme Officer, the Salvation Army Hong Kong and Macau Command, was invited to hold a workshop on “Basic Training of Special Education Needs” to increase the understanding of social service workers and undergraduate students in social work. |
