After moving into the new campus, the first opening ceremony of CityU was held on 16th September. Rector Shu Guang Zhang welcomed all new students to join the CityU family, encouraged them to work hard and raised some expectations to them for the new academic year. Becoming a Force in Advancing Progress According to Rector Zhang’s speech, CityU is not only a university of long historical standing, but also young and thriving. There are both challenges to take up and opportunities to seize for the future development. He promised that CityU would be devoted to creating an active and high quality academic environment for all. Meanwhile, he also expected students to fulfill three goals—listening to one’s heart regularly, interacting with the city skillfully and engaging in the society frequently. Rector Zhang wished that students would treasure this precious opportunity to study at CityU, develop independent and objective critical thinking, and embrace diversity. Cherishing Your Time, Setting Clear Goals Besides, Vice Rector Aliana Leong and Vice Rector Kong Fanqing also delivered speeches to urge the new students to work hard and introduce status quo of CityU to the latter. Citing Vice Rector Leong and Vice Rector Kong, CityU provides favourable learning and developing platforms for students. They hoped that students would make good use of their time, set clear goals for learning, emphasize upon both knowledge and ability, and spend a lovely college life in this free and inclusive academic environment in the new academic year. Sharing of Students A current student from the Faculty of Business shared his learning experience in CityU. He expressed his sincere gratitude to CityU for offering him a chance to learn, become mature and persist in fulfilling his dreams. Another new student from the Faculty of International Tourism and Management also shared his vision for his college life in the coming four years and promised that he would not fall short of his teachers’ and fellow schoolmates’ expectation. He would “Obtain brilliant achievements in CityU”. The first day of school of CityU began on 14th September. Many new facilities have been added and built in the new campus to meet the new students. |
