On September 6th, at the invitation of the Institute of Data Science of CityU, Dr. Ma Rong, a Senior Research Fellow at the CSUS National Smart City Joint Lab (Research Institute), delivered a lecture themed “Status Quo and Trends of the Development of Smart City and Artificial Intelligence”. The lecture was chaired by George Du, the President of the Institute of Data Science.
Starting with the development of artificial intelligence, Dr. Ma discussed the content and application of artificial intelligence, then moved to the processing of natural language under the discipline of artificial intelligence, and, through vivid cases, explained the status quo and trends of the development of artificial intelligence for the teachers and students. In addition, from artificial intelligence, Dr. Ma brought up the researches on the topic of smart city. She discussed the bottlenecks and problems currently encountered in city development and the criteria for a smart city, and, starting with the practices for creating a smart city, introduced the application of smart city virtual simulation systems, smart city simulation and prediction, and smart emergency decision-making. She displayed real-scene 3D cities, and shared with the audience amazing insights on smart buildings, centers for experiencing the smart city industry, public information platforms, smart city pilot programs, macro global smart city clusters and city belts. In the end, Dr. Ma predicted the applicability and future of artificial intelligence, and summarized that the "Smart Era" for the mankind would come.
During the lecture, the postgraduates actively participated in the Q&A session. Dr. Ma enthusiastically answered their questions regarding the system of the smart city discipline, the knowledge framework and the hot issues concerning the direction of development of artificial intelligence.
Dr. Ma is currently working at the CSUS National Smart City Joint Lab (Research Institute) as a Senior Research Fellow, responsible for managing scientific researches and studying standards in the smart city field. She mainly engages in work related to researches on visualized education and theories, natural language, artificial intelligence, data analysis field and smart city fields. She is currently a registered expert for the International Organization for Standardization ISO/TC268/ SC1 (Smart Urban Infrastructure Metrics), a registered expert and the Chinese Secretary for WG4 (Data exchange and sharing for smart community infrastructures), and the main writer of ISO 37156 (Guidelines on Data Exchange and Sharing for Smart Community Infrastructures); she is also a registered expert for the IEC SEG1 Smart Cities (Urban Planning and Simulation System (WG2), City Facilities Management (WG3), and IEC SyC Smart Cities WG2 (Market Relationship and Application), and an expert for IEEE-TC WBSS (Wearable Biomedical Sensors and Systems).
