[Source: Macau Daily] News from Chief Executive's Office: Chief Executive Chui Sai On recently met with Mr. Chan Meng Kam, Chairman of the Council of City University of Macau and Prof. Pang Su Seng, Rector of City U at the Macau SAR Government headquarters, exchanging opinions on the development of higher education in Macau. Chief Executive Chui welcomed Prof. Pang’s return to Macau, his birth place, and commended his contribution to Macau’s local higher education sector. The Chief Executive pointed out that Macau SAR Government has always attached great importance to the cultivation and training of talents, and has fully supported the development of higher education by continuously investing in resources and policies. Chairman Chan Meng Kam of the Council of City U has made great contributions in education, and his whole-hearted support has enabled City U to achieve significant expansion in recent years. The Government will continue to assist and support City University of Macau and other local higher education institutes in their quest to nurture talents for Macau’s sustainable development. Mr. Chan Mang Kam expressed his sincere thanks for the support given to City U by the Chief Executive and Macau SAR Government, and said that the University will strive to grow in accordance to the Government’s policies on higher education. Prof. Pang Su Seng then introduced his academic background and the vision for City U’s future, indicating that through the recently occurred transformations, the University has taken on the challenge to establish itself as a university belonging to the city of Macau. It has been noted that as most of the disciplines now offered by City U are in line with the demand posed by Macau’s development, the number of students has increased significantly compared in the past two years, from 300 then to the now 3,400. Keeping in mind of its future development, City U is also currently looking for locations to build a new campus. Ms. O Lam, Secretary-General of the Executive Council, also attended the meeting. |
