CityU organises COVID-19 vaccine information workshop and launches “Vaccination Leave Programme”

To enhance staff’s understanding of the COVID-19 vaccine and the importance of vaccination, the City University of Macau (CityU) hosted the workshop on “Prevention of COVID-19 and the information of COVID-19 Vaccines” yesterday (30 March) at the Taipa campus. The session invited Prof Ung Oi Lam, Secretary-General of the Pharmaceutical Society of Macao, to lecture on how to effectively prevent the COVID-19 virus and the importance of vaccination against it.

In the session, Prof Ung shared the global COVID-19 vaccination statistics, elaborating on the effectiveness and importance to receive the injection, deepening the staff’s understanding of the novel coronavirus, and boosting their confidence in vaccination. During the question-and-answer session, staff members actively asked questions about their reactions to the vaccine and how to choose a suitable vaccine for themselves and their families. Prof Ung provided detailed answers with her professional knowledge and experience. The staff said that the session was very informative and helped them better understand the effectiveness of vaccines so that they could explain the importance of vaccination to their families.

In addition, to support the call of the Macao SAR Government in promoting the vaccination against the COVID-19 virus and reducing the risk of infection and transmission of the virus in the community, CityU recently launched the “Staff & Family Member Vaccination Leave Programme” to encourage all staff and their family members to make plans to receive the injection to protect their health.

All full-time staff members on their own or accompanying their children below 18-year-old or parents over 65-year-old are entitled to one-day vaccination leave on the day after they or their families receive the first dose or third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at any vaccination station of the Macao SAR Government Health Bureau.

Apart from encouraging staff to receive the vaccine themselves, the programme also encourages staff to accompany and take care of their children or parents for vaccination. Since the programme's launch, 35 staff members have applied for the special vaccination leave in two weeks.

CityU is committed to its social responsibility and philosophy of “taking root in Macao, serving the Greater Bay Area”. The University places great importance on staff training and development and the health of its staff and their families. CityU will continue to respond to the Macao SAR Government’s call for vaccination and encourage colleagues to get vaccinated as soon as possible to reduce the risk of transmission of the novel coronavirus in the community.
