Rector Jun Liu began his lecture by discussing the development history of Macao's higher education over the past 40 years. Drawing on his extensive work experience and management skills in both domestic and international education, Rector Liu analyzed the current state of development and identified challenges using the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis.

Rector Jun Liu mentioned that internationalization has become the inherent logic of higher education development and the major trend for the future development of the higher education sector worldwide. To benchmark against the international indicators of higher education internationalization, he talked about “What internationalization of higher education is? Why it is important? And how to achieve it?” Rector Liu put together 10 key factors and identified four features, as well as six challenges ahead in the internationalization of Macao’s higher education. “Higher education should promote comprehensive and interdisciplinary development across the boundaries of different individual disciplines,” he suggested, “and attract more leading international scholars to educate students, enhancing their quality, employability, analytical skills, creativity, and critical thinking.”

During the Q&A session, Rector Liu interacted with the audiences. “CityU carries forward social responsibilities and its mission along with the vision of building a fully-fledged metropolitan university with ‘Macao characteristics, China's soul, and global vision,’” he said. Rector Liu motivated students to strive for achievements, broaden horizons, maximize the educational facilities and resources, and build solid disciplinary strengths, innovation and entrepreneurial capabilities, language skills, and intercultural awareness to become proactive and creative interdisciplinary talents. He encouraged students to play a role in the society by serving Macao, Greater Bay Area, and national development. Cheers and applause reverberated throughout the auditorium.
