CityU students excel in prominent design competitions

Students from the Faculty of Innovation and Design of the City University of Macau actively took part in international domestic design competitions and have achieved remarkable results.

Among them, doctoral student Chen Zhenyi, under the guidance of Assistant Professor Xing Yalong, won a “winner” award the Product Design category at the DNA Paris Design Awards 2023 with his work “Folding Chair.” The chair design stood out for its lightweight construction, convenient storage for modern spaces, and elegant aesthetics.

Under the guidance of Executive Associate Dean Wang Po Hsun and Assistant Professor Wang Yu-Ya, doctoral student Wang Zhen received a gold award in the tertiary education category at the Greater Bay Area regional level in the 4th Orient Start Design Award. Her project, titled “Visual Symbol Design for the Historic Center of Macao,” utilized the geography of color theory to identify colors from the facades of buildings in the local historic areas using an electronic color extraction device. By employing semiotics theories and conducting eye-tracking experiments, the project aimed to explore the cultural characteristics influenced by the Portuguese in these local areas.
