CityU celebrates the 24th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland, inheriting Chinese culture and cultivating patriotic talents
Since Macao’s return to the motherland, with the strong support of the central government and under the leadership of the SAR government, all sectors of society have collaborated closely, actively promoting the “1+4” strategy for moderate economic diversification, expediting integration into the overall national development, and scaling the development of the SAR to new heights.
Since Macao’s handover, higher education in the region has undergone rapid and high-quality development, establishing itself as a distinctive and high-quality educational hub. The SAR government has consistently emphasized the pivotal role of higher education as an engine for driving social development, resulting in remarkable achievements and invaluable experiences that have garnered widespread acclaim.
With the support of the central government, SAR government, and all sectors of society, City University of Macau (CityU) has been forging ahead, firmly adhering to its vision of “Macao Characteristics, China Soul, Global Vision.” It is dedicated to nurturing patriotic and dedicated talents needed for Macao, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and national development. CityU is dedicated to fostering patriotic education among its faculty and students. It maintains a strong connection with the motherland and progresses hand in hand with the SAR and societal development. The university strives to instill a sense of national pride among its faculty and students, promoting the traditions of patriotism and love for Macao, while also cultivating cultural confidence.

To celebrate the 24th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland, CityU organized a flag-raising ceremony and integrated patriotic education into daily teaching and education. The university introduced thematic subjects such as “Constitution and Basic Law,” “Chinese Language and Culture,” and “Macao’s History and Culture” to help students gain a deeper understanding of Macao’s social development under the “One Country, Two Systems.”
CityU actively organized patriotic education activities for faculty and students. These activities included the field trip to the National Security Education Exhibition, flag-raising ceremonies, the National College Student Red Tourism Creative Planning Competition, the Youth Day event series, and seminars on learning from the takeaways of the Two Sessions. Patriotism and love for Macao were integrated throughout the university’s nurturing of talent.
CityU also established a student flag-raising team, which was responsible for the weekly flag-raising ceremony and special sessions for key events. The student team demonstrated CityU students’ ethos by translating their enthusiasm and aspirations into practical actions, embodying a strong sense of responsibility and mission towards the country and society.
We celebrate the 24th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland. We extend our sincere and heartfelt wishes to the progress of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, the prosperity and flourishing of our motherland, and a brighter future for Macao. Let’s continue to write the next remarkable chapter of successful implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” in the Macao SAR.
