SAR Government and CityU Foundation sign letter of intent, CityU embraces new development opportunities
With the strong support from the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government and in alignment with the long-term and sustainable development of the university, the Education and Youth Development Bureau, representing the SAR Government, has signed a letter of intent with the City University of Macau Foundation today regarding the university’s application for land development. This initiative aims to apply for land resources from the SAR Government for the construction of a new campus of the City University of Macau, marking another milestone and new opportunity for the university’s development.

City University of Macau (CityU), formerly known as University of East Asia, established in 1981, implemented the strategies “Rename, Restructure, Transformation, and Upgrade” in 2011. Over the years, CityU has actively responded to the national strategy of building a leading country in education and implemented the SAR Government’s policy directions of “developing Macao through education” and “cultivating talents for the development of Macao.” The university has been dedicated to cultivating talents to serve the moderate diversification of Macao’s economy. It has made significant progress in teaching quality, talent development, and academic achievements, contributing to the development of Macao as an “education city.”
To provide a better academic environment, CityU has consistently been enhancing its educational conditions by optimizing its facilities, investing in hardware and software resources, and fostering synergies among its three campuses. The university ranks among the top three higher education institutions in Macao in terms of its scale. In recent years, the university has welcomed over two hundred exceptional academics from renowned international universities to join its faculty. Their outstanding academic backgrounds, international vision, and research experience will continue to empower the university in its pursuit of excellence in teaching and research.
On the occasion of its 43rd anniversary, CityU, along with every member, is greatly inspired by the signing of the letter of intent. Standing at this new milestone, CityU will seize the new opportunities given by the future campus. It will continue to enhance teaching quality, talent development, and research achievements by increasing resource allocation, introducing advanced facilities, and optimizing resource utilization to build an innovative future campus that aligns with the needs of teaching, research, and practical applications. Heading into the next phase, CityU will collaborate closely with relevant government departments to carry out the land approval process.
Looking ahead, CityU will leverage its strengths to realize the vision of “Macao Characteristics, China Soul, and Global Vision.” It will also shoulder more social responsibilities, contribute to the moderate diversification of Macao’s economy, make further contributions to local higher education, and strive to integrate the university’s endeavors into the national development, taking a significant leap forward.
