Rector Jun Liu leads delegation to visit universities in Rio de Janeiro to expand international collaboration and cultural exchanges

To promote exchanges and cooperation with higher education institutions in Portuguese-speaking countries, Prof. Jun Liu, rector of City University of Macau (CityU) led a delegation to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after their trip to São Paulo. During the visit, Rector Jun Liu signed cooperation agreements with the Fluminense Federal University (Universidade Federal Fluminense, UFF), the Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (Escola Brasileira de Administração Pública e de Empresas, FGV-EBAPE), and the Rio de Janeiro State University (Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, UERJ), with the aim of expanding cooperation in talent cultivation, academics, scientific research, and student and faculty exchange. Other members of the CityU delegation included Associate Dean José Paulo Afonso Esperança of the Faculty of Business (FOB) and Associate Professor Vera Borges of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS).

Visit to Fluminense Federal University (UFF)

The delegation received a warm welcome from Prof. António Claúdio da Nóbrega, rector of the Fluminense Federal University, and had in-depth discussions on cooperation in student exchanges, joint research projects, and academic visits. Rector Jun Liu and Rector António Claúdio da Nóbrega signed the agreement on behalf of both universities. Other attendees at the meeting included Vice-Rector Fábio Passos, representatives from UFF’s International Office, faculty members from Faculty of Business Administration, and the coordinator of the graduate programs in language, literature and arts.

Visit to Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (FGV-EBAPE)

The delegation was warmly received by Prof. Flávio Carvalho de Vasconcelos, dean of FGV-EBAPE. At the meeting, Rector Jun Liu introduced the unique geographical location of Macao and the important role it plays in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as globally. Rector Jun Liu and Dean Flávio Carvalho de Vasconcelos signed a cooperation agreement on behalf of both institutions, discussing opportunities for student and faculty exchanges, international development, and research cooperation between the two places. Other attendees at the meeting included representatives from FGV-EBAPE, specializing in business management and international relations.

Visit to Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ)

The delegation was warmly received by Prof. Gulnar Azevedo e Silva, rector of Rio de Janeiro State University. The director for international affairs, Mónica Heilbron, gave an overview of the university. Rector Jun Liu gave an overview of the achievements of CityU in terms of its history, mission, curriculum, and student activities, as well as highlighting the unique characteristics of higher education in Macao and the strategic collaboration opportunities between Brazil and Macao. Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business, Prof. José Paulo Afonso Esperança, shared the achievements in teaching and learning, as well as talent cultivation in the Faculty of Business and the Faculty of Finance at CityU. Rector Jun Liu and Rector Gulnar Azevedo e Silva signed a cooperation agreement on behalf of both universities. Going forward, the two universities hope to collaborate in areas such as business management, finance, applied linguistics, Portuguese and English, and promote student exchange projects. Other attendees at the meeting included Vice-Rector Bruno Rêgo Deusdará Rodrigues.
