CityU students embark on volunteer teaching trip to promote primary arts education in Zhanjiang, Guangdong
A group of doctoral students studying musicology at the Faculty of Innovative and Design (FIAD) of the City University of Macau embarked on a three-day volunteer teaching activity at primary schools in Huangpo town, Zhanjiang city, Guangdong province. Led by their supervisor, Professor Dai Dingcheng, and accompanied by Zhuang Jie, leader of the CityU Art Troupe’s traditional Chinese music ensemble, the students aimed to enhance cultural exchange and support arts development in primary education in towns and townships.
This 2023 cohort of doctoral students taught chorus singing, basic music theory, and the composition of symphony. They also handcrafted kazoo instruments using eco-friendly materials and gifted them to the primary students. Professor Dai Dingcheng, as the activity coordinator, donated music books to the schools to support their music education initiatives. This teaching activity allowed the students to gain valuable practical teaching experience.
