CityU organizes mindfulness and sound healing workshops to help students find inner peace

To foster mental well-being and experience the power of sounds and mindfulness, Student Affairs Office (SAO) of City University of Macau (CityU) recently hosted “Mindfulness Workshop” and “Handpan Sound Healing Workshop”. These events attracted numerous students to embark on a journey of self-discovery and healing through gentle music and deep mindfulness.

The “Mindfulness Workshop” featured Sit Man In, a certified MBCT-L instructor from Oxford Mindfulness Centre and registered psychotherapist at a local psychotherapy center – Centro De Psicoterapia Nurturing Natures. The workshop encompassed five key elements: mindful breathing, mindful eating, body scanning, mindful walking, and mindful gratitude. Instructor Sit guided participants into a state of mindfulness using the sound of singing bowl, helping them release stress and find inner balance.

The “Handpan Sound Healing Workshop” on the next day proved popular, led by Macao handpan artists Moritz Ng and Dave. The workshop commenced with a handpan performance, followed by an introduction to the instrument’s origins and its applications in sound healing. Through live performances and interactive dialogue, students immersed in the healing and calming vibe of the music. In practical session, students learned to play handpan and other instruments, engaging in improvisational ensemble playing and gaining the joy in the process of collaboration and creative expression.

Both workshops focused on psychological adjustment and sensory exploration, allowing students to relax and recharge with positive energy amid their demanding study schedules. Going forward, CityU would plan more diverse mental health activities to enrich campus life and promote student holistic development.
