CityU’s Belt and Road Joint Laboratory showcases kraak wares in digital porcelain exhibition

The “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2025” was opened recently. On the same day, the “Hello China, Hello Macao – The Odyssey of Jingdezhen Porcelain: A Heritage Voyage from Macao to the World” Special Exhibition was inaugurated at the Wynn Palace. The Sino-Portugal Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Science of Cultural Heritage Conservation (Belt and Road Joint Laboratory) of the City University of Macau provides academic support to the exhibition, showcasing 34 exquisite pieces of kraak porcelain from the late Ming dynasty as the event’s highlight, each featuring unique themes and connotations.

The Ceramic Arts Forum was also held. Zhao Qiang, the first postdoctoral fellow of the Joint Laboratory and academic advisor for the exhibition, delivered a keynote speech, stating that the number of complete kraak porcelain pieces currently housed by CityU may exceed the surviving collections in Jingdezhen, highlighting its unique academic strength in the field of heritage conservation.

This event is part of the Programme of the “Culture City of East Asia 2025” and marks the debut of a light installation exhibition featuring large pieces of Jingdezhen ceramic art. It will be open until October 19, 2025, closed on Mondays, and open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free, and all are welcome.
