The Times Higher Education (THE) has announced its World University Rankings 2026, featuring a total of 2,191 universities worldwide. City University of Macau (CityU) has made its debut on the list, ranking in the 601-800 range, becoming the third university from the Macao region to be included. This achievement marks a significant step forward for the university in terms of international development and academic influence, representing an important milestone in its history.

With strong support from the national and regional governments, CityU Macau is steadily developing and entering a new phase, achieving a series of new results. The University responds to the policy guidelines of the SAR government as well as the “Medium- and Long-term Development Plan for Tertiary Education in Macao (2021-2030)”. Guided by the principle of “integrating education, technology, and talent,” and aligned with Macao’s development positioning of “one center, one platform, one base” and the goal of moderate economic diversification, the University continues to optimize its academic programs.

Upholding the motto of “Virtue, Knowledge, Practice”, CityU aims to build an outstanding comprehensive university with “Macao’s Characteristics, China Soul, and Global Vision”. The University actively optimizes its academic layout, closely aligning with societal needs, and is dedicated to cultivating applied and practical high-end talent. Under this strategic guidance, the University’s academic achievements have greatly improved, with both the quantity and quality of publications rising significantly, and the total number of publications increasing tenfold compared to five years ago.

CityU always prioritizes teaching quality and student experience, firmly implementing the development strategy of “industry-education integration and innovation-driven growth,” and striving to build a collaborative innovation ecosystem among industry, academia and research. By deepening cooperation between universities and enterprises while breaking down disciplinary and going beyond regional barriers, the University’s recognition and influence at both regional and international levels continue to enhance, empowering practical teaching and talent development. Looking ahead, achieving excellence remains the goal of CityU, and the University is moving toward this with steadfast determination. It will remain committed to interdisciplinary teaching and research innovation, deepening comprehensive cooperation with academic alliances, contributing wisdom and strength to the advancement of higher education and community development as a whole.
