CityU students earn awards at Macao regional of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area IT System Development Competition

祝賀

The student teams from City University of Macau (CityU) achieved excellent results in the Macao regional of the 10th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area IT System Development Competition in 2025. The project “HeartVision: Cardiac Imaging Recognition and Segmentation System” won the outstanding award, while “Macao Livable, Mlife” received the finalist award. Both teams will represent Macao in the national finals. This year’s competition attracted 34 teams from local universities, marking a threefold increase from previous years. Ultimately, three outstanding awards and three finalist awards were presented.

The “HeartVision” team, one of the outstanding award winners, is comprised of four students from Faculty of Data Science: Tian Xingyuan, Li Dongxiao, Lv Weiyi, Li Baixi. The project is an AI-driven detection and diagnosis system for coronary angiography. Its most distinctive feature lies in three major breakthroughs:

  • LASF framework: Addresses the four major technological challenges that doctors encounter in practical operation, such as unclear images and vascular segmentation and adhesion.
  • Exclusive datasets: Through collaboration with Guangdong Second People’s Hospital and other institutions, over 600,000 internal medical imaging datasets have been obtained for model training. These datasets have passed medical ethics review and provide a guarantee for the accuracy.
  • Diffusion model: The biggest technical challenge encountered by the team is the deployment of the diffusion model to predict the recovery of blood vessels after clearing by technical fine-tuning. Accessing postoperative outcomes with traditional techniques faces various problems, such as accurately generating prediction images in line with medical logic under limited data, uneven data quality, and poor labels. These issues have burdened the industry for a long time.

The “Mlife” project, one of the finalist award winners, is composed of four students from Faculty of Data Science: Ma Yuxuan, Li Yehao, Ou Junhong, Li Bowen. The project is designed for Macao’s students, residents, and cross-border workers, tackling three key challenges: house shortages, unreliable information and resource access. The platform features four key functions:

  • Housing security: All listed properties have undergone manual verification with online support and full information traceability.
  • “One-click rental” function: Matches roommates according to the rentee’s preferences.
  • Integration of campus services: Online ordering in the canteen and other convenient functions are integrated
  • Cantonese input: Aligns with local culture and the usage habits of international students.

“Macao Livable, Mlife” is not only a rental tool but also positioned as a diversified, intelligent and easy-to-use service platform. At present, the project has received the support of CityU’s entrepreneurial incubation, successfully connected with several local property agencies, and is now in trial operation to help potential rentees with house hunting and signing housing agreements.

As the top exchange platform in the IT field of the Greater Bay Area, the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area IT System Development Competition” has been held for ten consecutive years since 2016 with increasing influence. The competition has been selected as a feature activity of the China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair for many times. During the “13th Five-Year Plan” period, it was even selected as a feature activity of innovation and entrepreneurship education by the Guangzhou Municipal Education Bureau three times.

The two awarded teams received an exclusive interview with the Shimin Daily, sharing the story behind the project and their reflections and takeaways during the competition.
