CityU students visit local elderly home to share CNY blessings through music

To share heart-warming Chinese New Year blessings and foster community care, the Macau Urban Music Research Center, under the Faculty of Innovation and Design at City University of Macau, together with doctoral students in the field of Art Studies (Musicology), recently visited the elderly home “Asilo Vila Madalena”. They held a Chinese New Year performance, using music to extend festive greetings and sincere wishes to the elderly residents. Professor Dai Dingcheng, director of the Macau Urban Music Research Center, was the artistic director of the event.

The performance was presented in an intimate salon format, featuring a rich and diverse repertoire that included both Chinese and Western classical pieces, blending traditional charm with popular appeal. Through vocal solos and instrumental performances on the clarinet, gaohu (traditional Chinese high-pitched bowed string instrument), guqin (Chinese seven-stringed zither), piano, guzheng, and violin, they brought a heart-warming musical feast to the seniors. Using music as a bridge, the activity not only showcased the university’s research and artistic achievements but also reflected a strong integration of academia and social service, promoting community integration and cultural sharing.

Looking ahead, City University of Macau will continue to delve into the field of social welfare, regularly organizing such artistic and cultural service activities. The goal is to enrich the lives of the seniors with art, and while preserving and promoting music culture, fulfilling the university’s social responsibility and contribute to community welfare initiatives.
