CityU organizes CNY exchange student event, offering traditional festival experience

The City University of Macau (CityU) held a Chinese New Year Gathering today for exchange students arriving in the second semester of the academic year 2025/2026. The gathering aimed to build a cross-cultural exchange platform, strengthen friendships, and help exchange students better blend into the campus culture and the lifestyle in Macao. Over 50 exchange students from partner universities both in China and abroad participated in the activities. Rector Jun Liu, Dean Adrian Cheung of the Faculty of Finance, Associate Dean Huang Guowen of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Director Wu Cheng of the Office of Global Affairs attended the event. All participants enjoyed a lovely and enthusiastic afternoon.

Rector Jun Liu warmly welcomed the exchange students with a heartfelt speech and engaging cultural interactions that enlivened the atmosphere, showcasing the beauty of cultural diversity, shared identity, and harmony. He encouraged students to cherish their opportunity to study in Macao, utilize Macau’s unique advantage as a center for the integration of Chinese and Western cultures, experience local culture, and enjoy the integration of diverse cultures.

During the activity, students wrote spring couplets expressing their New Year blessings and shared insights about their traditional home cultures. They experienced the charm of Chinese calligraphy and gained a deeper understanding of the cultural connotations, historical origins, and festival traditions of the Chinese Lunar New Year. During the exchanges, they learned more about each other and worked together to complete the games. Laughter filled the air, creating a joyful and harmonious atmosphere. During the tea break and discussions, the host showcased Spring Festival cultures from different regions and invited students from different countries to exchange New Year’s greetings in their native languages. Students shared their hometown’s festive customs, learned about global cultural diversity, and brought each other closer.

This New Year Gathering event not only provided a platform for cultural exchange and friendships, but also demonstrated the university’s support for its exchange students. Going forward, CityU will continue to organize a variety of activities to promote exchange and understanding between different cultures, ensuring that every student who comes to CityU for exchange studies has a learning journey filled with wonderful memories and gains.
