Hangzhou tech enterprise visits CityU, exploring new pathways for technology-empowered futures with students

Under the guidance of the Education and Youth Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, and organized by the Macao SAR Government Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), and co-organised by the Macao Hangzhou Youth Association and the Macau Youth Development Service Centre, the thematic event “Spirit of Science, Blossoming Youth: Hangzhou Tech Enterprises Meet Macao Youth (Campus Tour)” was recently held at Taipa Campus, City University of Macau (CityU). The event invited Mr. Liang Linchao, founder and CEO of Hangzhou Taixi Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., as a tech innovation speaker to engage in a face-to-face dialogue with CityU students on the journey of technological innovation. The event aimed to stimulate youth innovation vitality and build a cross-regional tech innovation exchange platform through in-depth dialogue between Hangzhou and Macao tech enterprises and young students.

The event was attended by Hong Wai Man, head of the Department of Youth of the DSEDJ; Mr. Sheng Yijun, President of the Macao Hangzhou Youth Association; Mr. Liang Linchao, founder and CEO of Hangzhou Taixi Intelligent Technology, along with the company’s brand director Zhang Wei and public relations director Liu Mo; Lewis Chao, head of the Student Affairs Office (SAO) at CityU; Li Hexiang, president of the City University of Macau Students’ Association; He Binghao, president of the CityU Postgraduate Association; and nearly 100 CityU student representatives, all coming together for a dynamic exchange between technology and youth.

Liang shared his personal journey of studying abroad and returning to China to start his own business, introducing the development trajectory and core business layout of Hangzhou Taixi Intelligent Technology. He studied at Chemnitz University of Technology in Germany, specializing in automation, and later worked as an automation engineer at Siemens AG, gaining extensive industry experience. In 2020, he returned to China to establish Taixi Intelligent, focusing on the R&D, innovation, and practical application of exoskeleton robot technology. 。

He highlighted Taixi’s self-developed product, the X1/Mark0.1 second-generation consumer-grade exoskeleton. Weighing only 1.8 kilograms, this AI-powered external assistive exoskeleton represents a perfect blend of technology and lightweight design. Equipped with an AI gait-adaptive algorithm, it can accurately capture and perceive human movement intentions, providing real-time efficient assistance with a battery life of 4–5 hours and the ability to reduce user energy expenditure by up to 50%. It can be widely applied in hiking, cycling, heavy-load carrying, and even assist individuals with lower-limb mobility impairments, unlocking diverse application scenarios.

Liang also shared their breakthrough R&D achievements in mountaineering exoskeleton robots, as well as a heartwarming story from the Canton Fair where their technology helped a patient with muscular dystrophy from Argentina stand and walk again, which deeply moved and resonated with the students in attendance.

Subsequently, the Taixi Intelligent team brought multiple self-developed exoskeleton devices for students to try on and experience up close. Under the guidance of professional staff, students experienced firsthand the power augmentation brought by technology. The lightweight and comfortable wearing experience, combined with the impressive assistive effect, left many exclaiming that they had truly felt the compelling allure of “steel bones” and gained a more intuitive and deeper understanding of future intelligent technology lifestyles.

This university-enterprise exchange event provided CityU students with an excellent platform for in-depth dialogue and learning with cutting-edge tech enterprises. It not only offered an up-close look at the development trends and tech breakthroughs in the frontier field of exoskeleton robotics, but also ignited interest and enthusiasm for pursuing technological innovation. Looking ahead, CityU will continue to deepen its university-enterprise collaborative education model, host more high-quality and high-value exchange activities, encourage students to integrate theoretical knowledge with industry practice, and cultivate high-caliber talents with both innovative spirit and practical capabilities. In doing so, CityU will share youthful energy and institutional strength to technological innovation, talent development, and regional growth in Macao and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
