City University of Macau (CityU) recently participated in the signing ceremony of the initiative on deepening cooperation in Portuguese and Spanish language talent development, hosted by the Service Centre for Economy and Trade between China and Portuguese/Spanish-speaking Countries (CECPS). Vice Rector Zhou Wanlei represented CityU alongside seven other universities from Mainland China and Macao.

The initiative marked the first tripartite collaboration among universities, government, and enterprises, focusing on cultivating “language + industry knowledge” talents to support China’s economic and trade cooperation with Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking nations. It aimed to promote industry-academia integration, establish internship pathways, and leverage preferential talent policies.

During a roundtable discussion, Prof. Chao Peng emphasized that AI can greatly enhance efficiency in teaching and research and provide new perspectives in discipline construction. Looking ahead, CityU will deepen its collaboration with the Centre, enhance its “Portuguese/Spanish +” and “AI+” talent development model, and cultivate internationally oriented professionals to strengthen regional economic and cultural ties.
