On 7 February, the press conference for “Faculty of International Tourism and Management (FITM) of City University of Macau Awarded UNWTO TedQual Certificate” was held in Ho Yin Convention Center HG03 to announce CityU as the only university in Macau currently being awarded the certificate for doctoral, master and bachelor tourism courses. At the opening remark, Rector Shu Guang Zhang thanked the effort of all FITM staff. He stated that the faculty has always been endeavouring in nurturing practical and pragmatic talents and hoped that it will further advocate international cooperation. Prof. Gavin Chau, Executive Associate Dean of FITM, introduced the recent development of the faculty and Ms Esther Kou, Lecturer of FITM shared the process of acquiring the certificate. As early as in 2013 and 2016, the “Master of International Hospitality and Tourism management” program and “Doctor of Philosophy in International Tourism management” program has been TedQual certified respectively. In 2017, in order to further enhance the program quality and global horizons of faculty members and students, FITM submitted a certification application for “Bachelor of International Hospitality and Tourism Management” program. In October 2017, Dr. Antonio Carles, senior auditor from the Themis Foundation of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, conducted a site visit, which included documents review, campus tour, meetings with university leaders, faculty members, students, alumni and industry partners, etc. Dr. Carles made positive comments on teaching quality and research development, and praised the academic and management team as well as the competency of students. TedQual is an important accreditation by the UNWTO Themis Foundation. With an aim is to improve the quality of education, training and research, it is the world's highest level of accreditation of tourism education and has a significant international influence. |
