The Faculty of Data Science (FDS) of the City University of Macau (CityU) benchmarks itself against the global technology frontier with the pursuit of forward-looking and innovative development. With a strong foothold in data science and information technology, FDS leverages its strengths to cultivate a wealth of leading professionals to advance the smart development in Macao and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
- FDS is led by Prof. Zhou Wanlei, an internationally renowned expert in the fields of data science, computer science, and network security, and senior scholar Mu Yi serves as a distinguished professor.
- Offering a Bachelor of Intelligence Technology and Services program, a Master of Data Science program, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Data Science program. With its interdisciplinary curriculum, FDS educates a diverse pool of talent with a solid foundation in both practical and theoretical aspects of data science, computer science, and information technology.
- FDS has been partnering with Zhiwang Anyun (Wuhan) Information Technology Co. Ltd. to establish the Joint Research Laboratory on Data Security and Protection. Under the partnership, the two side carry out strategic, innovative, and collaborative scientific projects and facilitate the transformation and application of research findings.
- FDS has been partnering with industrial giants to establish the Joint Laboratory for Spatio-Temporal Data and Artificial Intelligence, the Joint Laboratory for Industrial and Intelligent Manufacturing, and the City University of Macau and Vcomin Joint Laboratory to strengthen exchanges, as well as to promote research achievements and transformation of research findings.
- Students actively took part in competitions with professional setting, including the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area IT System Development Competition, 2022 Macau Cyber Security Technology Competition, “Huawei Cup” — the 19th China Postgraduate Mathematical Contest in Modelling, and Huawei ICT Competition 2022-2023 (Macao regional).
- Graduates have diverse career prospects, with the knowledge and capabilities to serve a range of industries including tourism, finance, healthcare, and education. They also possess the skills and knowledge to take on more comprehensive roles, and can pursue opportunities in industry data analysis, management, and specialized research.

The Bachelor of Intelligence Technology and Services program delivers modern service industry knowledge to cultivate students’ comprehensive development in the areas of expertise and innovation. The program emphasizes the integration of professional skills, service qualities, and humanities. Our faculty comprises renowned scholars from both domestic and international institutions, with 90% holding doctoral degrees.
Upon graduation, students possess the qualities necessary to excel in various fields of the modern service industry, such as smart tourism, smart finance, smart government, smart community, smart healthcare, smart sales, smart transportation, smart education, and other related positions. They also possess the qualifications to pursue further education in master’s degree programs in fields such as information technology, data science, international tourism, fintech, and modern management to enhance their academic abilities.

The Master of Data Science program covers a broad range of specializations, including data science, computer science, artificial intelligence, data security, and blockchain technology. The program aims to cultivate a new generation of versatile and highly skilled professionals with a solid theoretical foundation and excellent innovation capabilities in data analysis and processing.
By learning professional knowledge, conducting research, completing practical assignments, and writing a thesis, students will develop a strong knowledge base and acquire professional skills in data analysis, management, and application. They will be able to apply data analysis methods to address problems in specific fields. Upon graduation, they can pursue careers in industry data analysis and managerial positions, as well as engage in research in areas such as data processing technology, urban data processing, data mining and analysis, and artificial intelligence data processing.
The Doctor of Philosophy in Data Science program adopts an interdisciplinary curriculum and innovative teaching models to cultivate high-end professionals in the fields of data science and big data. Students will develop a big data mindset and literacy, master skills related to data analysis and application, possess multi-dimensional knowledge, practical abilities, innovation consciousness, and teamwork spirit.
Through acquiring professional knowledge, conducting research, and writing a dissertation, students will possess knowledge and skills in data analysis, management, and application. They will be able to apply data analysis methods from an international perspective to solve problems in specific fields. After graduation, they can engage in high-end data analysis and managerial positions, as well as research in areas such as management of big data in urban areas, data computing and analysis, AI and data processing, and data visualization processing.
