Dear Teachers and Students,
Happy New Year! We bid farewell to the Year of the Ox. Let us harvest great success in the prosperous Year of the Tiger.
Welcome back to the campus after the festive break of the Lunar New Year holidays. We have made well-rounded preparation to continue the semester. We are looking forward to seeing you on campus.
Looking back to 2021, it was a year to remember. Under the COVID-19 pandemic, we went through different phases of online and face-to-face classes. In facing all the difficulties and challenges, we worked together to complete learning tasks with excellence. At the same time, many of you joined the volunteer workforce to help the citywide nucleic acid testing, representing the University to fight the novel coronavirus at the frontline. I am so impressed and so proud of you.
Over the past year, the University has grown with you and made remarkable achievements in areas of development. We brought each other together through various portals, including the “Town Hall Meeting”, the “Rector’s Corner”, “Meet with the University Leaders”, and the “Follow Rector’s Footprints”, in which we have communicated through multi-channels seamlessly. We strengthened and further developed our programmes, continuously enhanced education quality. We focused on the cross-disciplinary Social Sciences development supported by data sciences in Big Health, Urban Development and Financial Technology. We also promoted intensive industry-academia collaboration with mainland China and international universities and businesses, providing students with a broader platform for learning and development.
I am grateful to all teachers who have devoted themselves to education and designed dedicated course content. Outside the classroom, you have also presented your professionalism and commitment as a scholar to offer insights in combating the pandemic in such areas as Data Science, Finance, Tourism, Psychology, Social Sciences, Urban Planning and Governance, Belt and Road Initiative, Education, and Laws.
Today’s CityU is in its prime. We embark on the journey with wisdom and unremitting efforts to push forward the development of the University, strive for continuous improvement of the quality of student cultivation, and give wings to the dreams of every CityU student. It is time to return to the campus after the break. Let us meet at our beautiful campus. Let us be grateful, learn to cherish and stay open-minded. Let us harvest knowledge and positive mindfulness in the new year.
The COVID-19 pandemic is yet to end, and we need to work together to ensure a safe and healthy campus environment. Under the guidelines of the health and education authorities of the SAR Government, the University will make proper arrangements for students’ campus life. I hope you will work hard to stay healthy and positive. Upon returning to the campus, you will maintain good school discipline and rigorously follow the guidelines for epidemic prevention. Let us enjoy a happy and fulfilling semester!
It is the new Year of the Tiger. We wish you all happiness and health, and great success at work and studies.
