The School of Education (SOE) at City University of Macau (CityU) focuses on postgraduate education, emphasizing both teaching and academic research. SOE is committed to nurturing high-level educators, scientific research fellows, and educational management talents, paving the way for high-quality development of education in Macao and surrounding cities. SOE has an outstanding and diverse faculty team, and regularly inviting leading scholars to serve as distinguished professors to provide students with meticulous academic instruction and personalized teaching and research guidance.
- SOE offers three postgraduate programs: Master of Teaching and Learning Studies, Master of Education, and Doctor of Philosophy in Education. Through intensive research-based learning, the school cultivates high-level talents in teaching, research, and educational leadership, enhancing students’ research and practical classroom skills.
- SOE has established the Research Institute of Macau Education Development. As an important platform for research and academic exchanges in educational sciences, the Institute has partnered with the Institute of Schooling Reform and Development of East China Normal University, a key research institute of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, to serve the development of elementary education in Macao and the Greater Bay Area.
- SOE invites distinguished professors from the Chang Jiang Scholars Program, overseas Chinese high-level personnel from the national talent recruitment program (known as "Ten Thousand Talents Program"), and members of the National Graduate Education Steering Committee to give lectures and share the latest academic research and studies.
- SOE collaborates with universities and institutions in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan to organize high-end academic conferences, providing a platform for academic exchange to facilitate students’ comprehensive development.
- Opportunities for short-term overseas visits and cultural experiences are offered, encouraging students to actively participate in academic exchange activities to enhance their professional competence and global perspective.

Assistant Professor Peng Jun, Program Coordinator
Research Interests and Areas of Expertise: Big Data Analysis, AI Education, Higher Education Informatization, Hybrid Learning, Computer Programming Instruction, Curriculum design and Pedagogy, and Educational Research Methodology.
Master of Teaching and Learning Studies program is designed to cater to the needs of in-service teachers in terms of teaching enhancement and career development. This program emphasizes academic research, application, and integration of intelligent educational technologies and the flipped classroom approach. Unlike other local higher education institutions, this program takes action research or applied research approach, commonly used in international education, to replace the thesis writing. This unique approach has nurtured a wealth of educators in local non-tertiary education institutions, including Pui Ching Middle School, Kao Yip Middle School, Hou Kong Middle School, Kwong Tai Middle School, and Lou Hau High School, as well as those in the Greater Bay Area, such as Zhuhai Experimental Middle School and Kuang Weiyu Memorial Middle School.
Master of Education program aims to further meet the demand for postgraduate education in the field of education in Macao, while building a high-level education system for education research graduate students. Through immersive learning in multiple research directions, the program enhances students’ research and practical teaching skills. With training and expansion in three professional areas including educational administrative management, educational information technology, and lifelong learning, graduates will become major forces in the teaching and research fields that keep pace with social development. Employment opportunities are available in major universities and education management departments, as well as in enterprises and institutions such as China Bank and Guangdong Radio and Television.
Doctor of Philosophy in Education program embodies the highest academic standards in the field of education and trains high-level teaching, research, and leadership talents for Macao and surrounding regions. By teaching diverse research methods, immersing students in the latest research projects, and exploring cutting-edge educational research issues, graduates will become high-level education research and leadership talents. Through years of dedicated studies, PhD graduates will grow into stalwarts in universities and research institutions. Many outstanding graduates have found employment at prestigious top-tier universities, especially those included in the national Double First-Class University Plan, such as Zhejiang University, Beijing Normal University, South China Normal University, Jinan University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Central South University.
