City University of Macau’s Rector Yan Ze-Xian and company visited Macau Cultural Industries Committee

City University of Macau’s Rector Professor Yan Ze-Xian and company visited Macau Cultural Industries Committee’s Vice-Chairman Leong Heng Teng.

On the morning of February 16th, a party led by City University of Macau’s Rector Professor Yan Ze-Xian made a special trip to visit Macau Special Administrative Regional Government’s Cultural Industries Committee. This party also included Assistant Rector and Registrar Professor Xing Wen-Xiang, Research Centre for Macau Social and Economic Development’s Director and Cultural Industries Management’s Course Director Professor Li Jia-Zeng and Faculty of Humanities and Social Science’s Course Supervisor Miss Luisa Lao. The Committee’s Vice-Chairman Leong Heng Teng, Secretary-General Wong Keng Chao and others received the guests from City U.

Rector Yan Ze-Xian first introduced the general progress of City University, stating that since Mr. Chan Meng Kam’s invited takeover in September 2010 and the official name-change on February 1st 2011, City U has continued to work towards the direction of Renaming, Restructuring, Transforming and Upgrading, and has achieved some outstanding results. Last year, in order to better serve the Macau community, City U has applied for several new courses in succession and was granted approvals, among which was the Master degree course for Cultural Industries Management. This Master course aimed at cultivating intermediate to advanced level personnel with expertise in culture resource development, cultural planning and operating, and cultural industries management, adapting to the needs of Macau’s economic and social development. This visit to the Cultural Industries Committee was for the purpose of reporting City U’s progress and facilitating mutual understanding, in the hope that more work could be achieved under the Committee’s guidance.

Vice-Chairman Leong Heng Teng expressed profound appreciation towards this visit led by Rector Yan Ze-Xian. He pointed out that cultural industries were given much attention in Macau, but still remained in the starting stage. The government’s purpose of establishing the Cultural Industries Committee was to combine the effort and strengths of people from different backgrounds, exploring the future paths for cultural industries developments. Since the founding of the Committee more than a year ago, the consensus has always been be practical and down-to-earth in working, and be serious and earnest in researching. In Macau, there are many who worked in the cultural enterprises and industries, and some who are creative talents, yet high-level personnel in cultural industries management is lacking. City University has spotted this demand from the community and undertook this groundbreaking work, filling in this gap in Macau’s higher education; this is most significant. Vice-Chairman Liang also indicated that he hoped the Committee would have the opportunity to strengthen its cooperation with City U in the future, collaborating in areas such as cultivating high level and high quality talents in cultural industries management and the development of Hengqin Cultural and Creative Industrial Park.

Rector Yan Ze-Xian also gifted the Cultural Industries Committee with mementos on behalf of City University of Macau. The visit and meeting both concluded in a friendly and enthusiastic mood.
