CityU Faculty of Health and Wellness integrates theories and practice to cultivate interdisciplinary professionals
Academic Foundation and Cutting-edge Research
The Faculty also actively promotes the integration of industry, academia, and research. Collaborating with enterprises, it co-established Nursing and Community Health Research Center and set up the first practical base in Zhongshan. This initiative integrates smart health monitoring devices and big data analysis to provide health management services to the community.
In terms of the academic influence, FHW faculty team has been engaged in compiling authoritative industry reports. The Report on the Development of Silver Industry in China (2025) and the Report on the Development of Digital & Smart TCM (2025), edited by Professor Hou Shengtian, were first released at the Hainan International Health and Wellness Industry Expo 2025. These publications received support from experts such as Academician Wang Qi, a Grand Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Professor Fan Daiming, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, demonstrating the Faculty’s academic leadership in related fields.
Guangdong-Macao Cooperation and Industry Linkage
FHW has established effective collaborations with high-quality medical institutions in the Greater Bay Area. Through long-term partnerships with the Zhuhai Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital and the Zhuhai Third People’s Hospital, it provides clinical internship opportunities for students specializing in applied psychology every year.
During internships at the Child Psychology Department of Zhuhai Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital, students gain in-depth understanding and practical experience in psychological counseling, psychological assessment, and child rehabilitation techniques. At the Zhuhai Third People’s Hospital, interns are assigned to the Mental Health Center, where they engage in specialized work such as psychological hotline services, psychological adjustment, sleep disorders, and child & adolescent mental health. Students who complete practical training through such internships gained significant improvement in their professional skills.
Furthermore, FHW is actively expanding its industry linkage. It has successively signed framework agreements or held strategic cooperation discussions with enterprises such as Shenzhen Embodied Intelligent Manufacturing Equipment Group Co., Ltd., Guangdong Junfeng BFS Industry Co., Ltd., and Hong Kong/Guangzhou Huaye Technology Development Co., Ltd., jointly establishing academic-research institutions. These collaborations focus on in-depth exchanges around topics including AI applications in mental health, cognitive interventions for the elderly, and proactive health management.
Faculty and student delegations have also conducted field visits to Taishan City, Guangdong Province, for smart elderly care projects. Focusing on the elderly care needs of the overseas Chinese community, they conducted in-depth research on the construction planning and practical implementation of the Hua'erjia Digital Intelligence Health and Wellness Service Project, providing academic support for related policy formulation.
Diversified Practice and Community Service

FHW also encourages students to initiate their own service projects. In recent years, student-led organizations such as “Social Workers and Home” have planned and executed on-campus activities like the “College Student Health Checkpoint”, “10-Hour Famine Camp”, and the “Sharing Beauty Campus Event” enabling students to apply their learning in practice and fostering a spirit of helping others and self-help.
Currently, the Faculty has successfully established student internship partnerships with over 60 social service organizations in Macao. These partners include four social service centers located within the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone, further promoting student exchange and learning opportunities at other social service institutions across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, thereby building a broader practical platform.
Academic Exchange and Broader Perspectives
The Faculty of Health and Wellness is dedicated to building a comprehensive educational platform that integrates academic research, regional collaboration, industry engagement, and community service. In the future, FHW will continue to root in Macao while extending its reach across the Greater Bay Area, cultivating more future-leading, socially conscious professionals in the health and wellness field, thereby contributing to public health, social well-being and harmony.
