To help students studying Cultural Industries Studies cultivate the academic research skills, FHSS invited Zhou Zhimin, professor and doctoral supervisor of College of Management of Shenzhen University, to deliver an online academic lecture titled “Cultural Brand Naming and the Representation of Cultural Authenticity."
Professor Zhou Zhimin shared his insights on brand naming, brand attitudes, experimental design, and cultural innovation strategies, emphasizing the effectiveness of uncommon Chinese characters in brand naming. Through experimental design and data analysis, he demonstrated that common characters could improve processing fluency and the authenticity of brand culture, thereby enhancing brand attitudes. Furthermore, he explored the application of cultural innovation strategies in brand marketing with students, highlighting the integration of cultural elements to effectively create unique brands and suggesting the creation of brand names based on product characteristics. He concluded by sharing his insights into academic research, including addressing challenges such as social phenomena.
The academic exchange session, moderated by Professor Xiao Daibo of FHSS, featured lively discussions between Professor Zhou Zhimin and the students. Engaging his expertise with multiple examples, such as the JELLYCAT and French brand studies, along with his 20-plus years of research in brand management, Professor Zhou Zhimin provided insightful responses to questions. The academic session was concluded in a lively atmosphere.

The event began with opening remarks from the Dean of FHSS, Prof. Lixian Jin, who expressed heartfelt gratitude for the hard work and dedication of the students and the staff. She emphasized the importance of such events in fostering a vibrant learning environment and looked forward to many more activities to promote interactions in the future, further enriching academic and cultural life of faculty and students.
At the conclusion of the event, the audience participated in voting to select three special awards for this talent competition, including “Most Popular Performance,” “Most Captivating Performance,” and “Outstanding Creativity Performance.” The awards were presented by Vice Rector Han Wei, Dean Lixian Jin, and Associate Dean Huang Guowen to six exceptional teams, with a total of 28 students being recognized for their achievements.
