On the morning of September 5, the opening ceremony for the pre-university programs of the 2018/2019 academic year was at Ho Yin Convention Centre. Academic Registrar Sean Li of CityU, Associate Dean Wang Zhong of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Professor José Alves, Dean of Faculty of Business and Director of Open Institute, Director George Du of Institute of Data Science and others attended this opening ceremony. Academic Registrar Sean Li and Associate Dean Wang Zhong respectively delivered a speech on the opening ceremony.
Academic Registrar Li, on behalf of CityU, welcomed the new students of 2018 at the pre-university programs. He introduced CityU's development in the introduction of teachers, the discipline structure, the learning system and the extracurricular activities and said that, "education is not to imbue the brains but to ignite the torch". He encouraged the students to know Macao, understand Macao, adapt to the life in Macao, work hard and try to be promoted to the ideal undergraduate program smoothly in the next academic year.
In his speech, Professor Wang Zhong expressed his expectation and encourages to the students of the pre-university programs and mentioned the activities to be carried out in the new academic year, in hope of enhancing the students' group spirit, promoting their transpositional consideration and cooperation, and cultivating their organizing ability.
The upperclassman representative Tu Yiran and the new student representative Xu Jingying also shared their experience and expectations to the new academic year on the opening ceremony. They encouraged their schoolmates to cherish time, work harder. They also expressed their expectation to the new academic year and new life. They hoped the new students of the pre-university programs to enjoy learning in CityU!
