On the occasion of the 45th anniversary, City University of Macau (CityU) hosted the on-site lecture of the “Fang Binxing Experimental Class ”, featuring seven seminar sessions. Students engaged in presentations and discussions on cutting-edge research papers, covering topics such as artificial intelligence security, data privacy protection, cryptography and its applications, network communication security, blockchain and security, and attack behavior monitoring.

The seminar featured a strong team of lead and associate panelist, including Academician Dai Qionghai of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE); CAE Academician Zheng Weimin and honorary doctor of CityU; CAE Academician Hu Shimin; Zhou Wanlei, vice rector of CityU; Professor Lu Hui from Guangzhou University; Professor Xu Guandong from The Education University of Hong Kong; as well as Professors Li Shudong, Liu Yuan, Sun Zhe, Wu Lianren, and Shu Jiangang from Guangzhou University; Professor Li Fenghua from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Professor Wei Nan from Guangzhou University. During the seminar, students delivered in-depth presentations on recent papers from top-tier international conferences and journals. Topics covered included chain-of-thought reasoning in vision-language models, federated learning, privacy-preserving machine learning as a service (MLaaS), hallucination mitigation in large language models, reverse engineering and jailbreak attack-defense techniques, binary code similarity detection, and blockchain security.

Following each presentation, students, faculty members, and panelists raised targeted questions from various perspectives. Presenters defended their work in a rigorous and dynamic atmosphere. This training approach of “reading papers, presenting papers, and conducting research” fully reflected the distinctive feature of the Fang Class, significantly enhancing students’ academic presentation skills, critical thinking, and research horizons.Source: Faculty of Data Science
