To promote the inheritance and preservation of traditional music and to create a platform for music and arts exchange, City University of Macau invited a delegation from the Southern Music Association of Macau to hold a performance and exchange session at the Student Activity Center today, performing classic repertoire and showcasing the charm of Nanyin music – an ancient Chinese folk music originated from southern Fujian Province. Organized by the Faculty of Innovation and Design, the session aimed to help students understand the performance and preservation of Nanyin music in the local community. Professor Dai Dingcheng and PhD students in musicology participated in the session, with students showing a keen interest in learning more about the instruments, dialects, and singing approaches used in Nanyin classics. They also engaged in a lively exchange session to discuss the development and inheritance of Nanyin music as an intangible cultural heritage in Macao.
