CityU hosts research presentation conference and symposium to discuss Macao’s successful experience in implementing the Basic Law
To mark the 42nd anniversary of the founding of the City University of Macau (CityU) and the 30th anniversary of the promulgation of the Basic Law of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR), the Faculty of Law and CityU's Research Centre for Macau Social and Economic Development, a research partner of the Ministry of Education in the field of humanities and social sciences, organized a research presentation conference and symposium. The conference aimed to present the research findings of a study project (Chinese: “完善澳門特別行政區與憲法和基本法實施相關的制度和機制研究”; English translation: “Study on Improving the System and Mechanism related to the Implementation of the Constitution and Basic Law in the Macao Special Administrative Region”) funded by the Education Fund of the Government Education and Youth Development Bureau, which explored ways of optimizing the system and mechanism regarding the implementation of the Constitution and Basic Law in the MSAR. The event also provided a platform to discuss new approaches for better implementation.
Conducted by the Research Centre for Macau Social and Economic Development, the study carried out a thorough analysis on different aspects, including Macao's development under the implementation of the Constitution and Basic Law; the relationship between the Constitution and Basic Law; the effectiveness and impact of the Constitution in the MSAR; the nature, content, and constitutional responsibilities of the Basic Law for the MSAR government; and the relationship between central governance and the autonomy of the MSAR. The study proposed feasible recommendations to address the problems arising from the implementation of the Constitution and Basic Law in the MSAR, filling a research gap in this field.
