CityU hosts seminar on urban regeneration and heritage preservation in metropolises

The City University of Macau (CityU) hosted a three-day international academic seminar on urban regeneration and heritage preservation in metropolitan areas from June 29th to July 1st, 2024. The event, organized by the Research Centre for Macau Social and Economic Development, the Institute of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the Faculty of Innovation and Design, brought together 20 renowned scholars from 12 universities in the United States, Japan, South Korea, mainland China, and Macao.

The seminar provided a platform for sharing knowledge and experiences, exploring ways to apply advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence and big data, to balance cultural heritage preservation and revitalization, and the sustainable development in cities. Scholars also called for coordinated efforts from policymakers and stakeholders to develop sustainable solutions for urban renewal and promotion activities. These efforts should aim to preserve not only historic buildings but also intangible cultural heritage in metropolises. Local officials were invited to give closing remarks.
