CityU invites medical experts to explore the integration and development of AI and healthcare

During the hosting of the Digital Health Asia 2026, the Faculty of Data Science of the City University of Macau (CityU) recently invited Yang Feilong, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University (CSU), and Gu Wenda, administrative director of the department of anesthesiology and head of quality control and operations at the Guangdong Provincial First Veterans Hospital, to give academic lectures at CityU.

The two experts shared insights on “transformation and exploratory research of digitalizing medical e-records” and “hospital informatization and quality control operations construction in the AI era”, respectively, offering valuable insights that combined theoretical depth with practical application. Concurrently, CityU and Third Xiangya Hospital of CSU signed a cooperation agreement, marking a substantial step forward in their collaboration in the field of smart healthcare.

During the lecture, Dr. Yang Feilong presented on “transformation and exploratory research of digitalizing medical e-records”, delving into the evolution of medical e-records from structured and paperless to intelligent. He shared the experience of the Third Xiangya Hospital in building intelligent medical e-records that integrate generative function, quality control, medical insurance, and auxiliary medical care, as well as the practical achievements of promoting the application across multiple medical institutions based on Xiangya’s big data knowledge graph, a database of billions of data points combined with large models such as DeepSeek and Qwen.

Dr. Gu Wenda analyzed the topic of “hospital informatization and quality control operations construction in the AI era”, drawing on his extensive clinical and management experience to analyze how emerging technologies such as AI agents and vibe coding can help hospitals overcome traditional informatization bottlenecks. Through multiple real-world case studies, he shared his experience in implementing DIP payment reform tools, in-hospital collaboration efficiency platforms, RAG knowledge bases, and private AI platforms. He emphasized that in highly regulated and complex hospital environments, a “quick wins first” methodology should be adhered to, starting with high-frequency, low-risk scenarios and gradually building a composite capability encompassing technology, products, scenarios, and governance.
They shared diverse content and vivid examples, combining a macro perspective with pragmatic approaches, sparking lively discussions and interactions among the faculty and students. This lecture not only deepened the participants’ understanding of the practical applications of AI in the medical field but also provided valuable insights and practical inspiration for the interdisciplinary research of data science, artificial intelligence, and healthcare, establishing a high-quality exchange platform for promoting the deep integration of data science and smart healthcare.
