CityU launches Scams Awareness Campaign to strengthen students’ awareness and safeguard campus safety
With the rapid development of internet technology, new forms of cybercrime, such as telecommunications fraud, have become increasingly common, posing a threat to people’s lives and property. The City University of Macau (CityU) places great importance on strengthening campus education and awareness on preventing telecommunications and cyber fraud. To enhance students’ awareness, it carries out related initiatives and activities on a regular basis.
Collaborating with Judiciary Police to enhance anti-fraud efforts

In order to prevent campus fraud and promote anti-fraud awareness, a team from the Judiciary Police (PJ), led by Chiu Chu Wai Man, head of its Community Policing and Public Relations Division, visited CityU. They were warmly received by Pro-Rector Robert Chan Chon Pat. The two sides discussed approaches to strengthen fraud prevention, with the goal of enhancing precautions and preventing students from becoming victims, as well as empowering students to protect their properties.
The meeting focused on measures to prevent students from falling victim to telecommunications fraud. The Judiciary Police and the university put forward various preventive measures and urged students and parents to remain vigilant. In case of any suspicions of being scammed, the PJ reminded individuals to remain rational and calm, refrain from disclosing personal information or making transactions with strangers, and consult and verify with official sources. If individuals receive an email or text message requesting personal information or account passwords, the PJ reminded them to first contact the telecommunications companies for verification. The PJ urged individuals to refrain from clicking unfamiliar links or providing bank accounts, transaction passwords, and credit card information. They also encouraged individuals to pay attention to any abnormal behavior among their classmates, and emphasized the importance of students looking out for and helping each other, as well as reminding each other to be vigilant. If there is any suspicion of being scammed, individuals should immediately contact the police or the university.
The meeting was attended by Cheong Kim Fong, administrative head of the PJ's Youth Concern Group, Cheong Un Hong, coordinator at the Anti-Fraud Coordination Centre, Lewis Chao Chan Chong, head of the Student Affairs Office, Deke Chan Soi Sang, head of the Information Technology Office, and other City University staff.
