Associate Dean of the Institute for Research on Portuguese-speaking Countries of the City University of Macau, Dr Francisco Leandro, published an opinion title Beijing 2022 – Winter Olympics and the start of Lunar Year of Tiger: a step forward to the Chinese dream to extend best wishes to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
Looking back at the origins and spirit of Olympic movement, sport is to serve the shared and harmonious development of humankind. The true Olympic spirit is more than just presenting a good Games but promoting and upholding the Olympic spirit, as the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics has shown to the world. At the time, the Games coincides with the “Two Centenary Goals” put forth by the Communist Party of China. Against this backdrop, the three significant and complementary elements are coming together in Beijing Winter Olympics.
First, the Chinese Central Government is willing to pursue the Olympic spirit. Under the ethic of good governance under President Xi Jinping's strategic vision to encourage 300 million people to engage in the winter games, therefore, it contributes to the healthy development of the nation, the sports industry, and environmental protections.
Second, the symbolism of the Tiger represents vitality and determination to achieve transformation, showing President Xi's pursuit to advance his political commitments and turn the Games into an opportunity to develop sustainable energies and foster a culture of environmental preservation and large-scale recycling. Moreover, the Winter Games opened an opportunity for an inter-regional coordination project in energy supply. In fact, the Games will be the first in Olympic history supported by 100% sustainable energy.
Third, it contributes a great step towards the realisation of the Chinese Dream, which aims to improve domestic aspects such as to achieve sustained development, create opportunities for human development, easer asymmetries. The Games also helps lift international prestige of China. Therefore, indeed, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics presents more than just another edition of the Winter Olympics and the start of the Tiger year; it is a renewed commitment to the Olympic spirit in serving the harmonious development of people and communities and a step forward to realise the goal of Chinese Dream.
