CityU scholar as president-elect of International Association for Intercultural Communication Studies

Chair Professor Lixian Jin, Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences of the City University of Macau (CityU), has been elected – by 100% votes – to the position of President-Elect of the International Association for Intercultural Communication Studies (IAICS) 2022/2023, serving as the President for a term of two years starting from 2023.

The IAICS consists of scholars from a range of the intercultural and cultural sciences who are dedicated to doing research on communication across cultures. IAICS membership is made up of participants from over 32 countries. The results of their investigations are published in the journal of the organisation, Intercultural Communication Studies (ICS).

In 1985, the first international conference themed “Cross-Cultural Communication: East and West” was held in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. The group will meet every two years, alternating between North America and Asia. Since 2003, the conference has been held on an annual basis.

The 28th International Conference of the IAICS will be held in Macao next year for the first time, hosted by CityU. This is an opportunity to present the intercultural nature and features of Macao, including the need to promote intercultural communication and international studies of Portuguese-speaking countries. The conference will highlight the research achievements of scholars worldwide.
