CityU scholar Zhu Tianqing secures top-tier NSFC Young Scientists Fund (A)

Professor Zhu Tianqing, dean of the Faculty of Data Science at City University of Macau (CityU), has been awarded funding from the Young Scientists Fund (Category A) of the 2026 National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Dean Zhu is the only scholar in Macao to secure this funding this year. The project led by her has received RMB400,000 in total.

The Young Scientists Fund (Category A), previously called the NSFC National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, is one of the country’s highest-level talent programs under NSFV for young researchers. In 2025, its successful rate was approximately 7%.

The project addresses security and governance challenges arising from the shift of artificial intelligence (AI) from local to cross-domain collaboration, with a focus on cross-border data security, model security, and ethical compliance. Leveraging Macao’s “one country, two systems” policy and the geographical strengths of the Guangdong‑Hong Kong‑Macao Greater Bay Area, the project will demonstrate feasible practices for AI security governance between Guangdong and Macao, providing theoretical and technical support for internationalizing AI technologies and international cooperation.

Professor Zhu Tianqing has long been engaged in research on artificial intelligence security, cyberspace security, and data privacy protection. Over the past five years, with correspondence/first works, she has published more than 60 CCF-A papers such top conferences and journals such as USENIX Security, NDSS, IEEE S&P, IEEE TIFS, and IEEE TDSC. According to Google Scholar, her work has accumulated 11,000 citations, with an H-index of 53. She has been selected into Stanford’s World’s Top 2% Scientists list (Career-long Impact) and currently serves on the editorial boards of four international SCI journals and as a program committee member for multiple CCF-A international conferences.

Guided by research and innovation, CityU continues to optimize its innovative disciplinary priorities, advancing the development of AI and cybersecurity programs. Focusing on the development trends and industrial demands in the field of cross-border data security, CityU is committed to cultivating high-quality, interdisciplinary talents who possess technical skills, international visions, and governance literacy to serve Macao, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the nation in AI and cybersecurity, thereby building a solid talent pool for regional cybersecurity and the national intelligent security system.
