CityU student wins third place at 4th Macao Universities Diplomatic Speech Contest

The 4th Macao Universities Diplomatic Speech Contest, organized by the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government and the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao SAR, was successfully concluded at the Cultural Centre of City University of Macau (CityU). Eight contestants, each representing their own local universities, competed for top honors. Hosted by the Macao SAR Education and Youth Development Bureau and co-hosted by CityU, the finals saw student Hu Xinyao at the third place for her outstanding speech and performance.

With the theme of celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Macao, this year’s edition aimed to popularize diplomatic theories and knowledge, enhance students’ understanding of diplomacy with Chinese characteristics and those related to Macao, and cultivate their sense of responsibility and diplomatic awareness as Chinese youth. The 4th edition attracted 27 contestants, with eight of them making it to the finals. The topic of the speech finals was “25 years of glories: paving the way for modernization.” Hu Xinyao, a member of CityU’s debating team, delivered a speech about “time” through the lens of a little boy who was a Hou Kong Middle School student during the grand variety show in celebration of Macao’s return to the motherland. Her speech marked a momentous chapter in Macao’s achievements spanning 25 years since its return to China, and concluded with a pledge to join forces with fellow students to craft a brighter future – which was well received by the judges. Through her powerful speech, Hu Xinyao demonstrated the spirit of patriotism and encouraged her fellow students to cherish their time, actively participate in social practice, and strive to serve their country and Macao. She also highlighted Macao’s advantage of bridging the East and the West while being connected to the world, actively promoting China’s unique style of diplomacy, and voicing out the opinions of youth for a better Macao.
