CityU student’s entry shortlisted for the iF Design Award 2023

The iF Design Award 2023, a prestigious international design competition for students, unveiled its list of winners. The project “ZING-Community Flower Field Project,” created by Wang Meng, a Ph.D. student from the Faculty of Innovation and Design (FIAD) at City University of Macau, in collaboration with a student team from the Czech Technical University in Prague, excelled among over 7,000 submissions from 56 countries and regions. It has been recognized as one of the top 300 finalists for the iF Design Talent Award.

The iF Design Award 2023 consists of the iF Design Student Award, iF Design Talent Award, and iF Social Impact Prize. Assistant Professor Xing Yalong from FIAD provided guidance to the student team during the competition. The project focused on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal of “Good Health and Well-Being” and aimed to facilitate social interaction for the elderly and recreate social value. Its purpose was to offer dignified ways for seniors to engage in social activities and harness their potential as a new workforce.

The centerpiece was a fertilizer machine that integrated services based on the interests and hobbies of the elderly, community organizations, labor force, and economic value re-creation. Participation in community activities provided elderly participants with physical exercise, improved communication experience, enhanced emotional well-being, and contributed to a fulfilling and healthy life.
