The student team from the City University of Macau, guided by Assistant Professors Xing Yalong and Yang Huajie from the Faculty of Innovation and Design, achieved a national third prize at the 8th China Undergraduate Life Sciences Contest (CULSC). The team consisted of Wei Shujian from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Zhang Yuan from the Faculty of Innovation and Design, and Wang Jiawei from the Faculty of Data Science.

Across discipline boundaries, their project focused on studying the community composition and biodiversity of benthic macrofauna in the mangrove water area on the west side of the Lai Chi Vun shipyards, Coloane shoreline, Macao. With the support of the China-Portugal Joint Laboratory of Cultural Heritage Conservation Science supported by the Belt and Road Initiative, the research article investigated the ecological dynamics and adaptations of these benthic habitats, as well as the significance of these organisms to the overall ecosystem. The findings provided insights for future planning and valuable suggestions for the revitalization of the Lai Chi Vun shipyards.
