He is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a professor and a PhD supervisor in the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Tsinghua University, and the director of the Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC). He once served as the executive director of the China Computer Federation (CCF), director of the Committee on Academic Affairs, and chair of the Award Council.

Academician Zheng has dedicated himself to research studies on high performance computing, parallel computing mechanisms, and network storage. As a pioneer and leading light in network storage in China, he has accomplished creative achievements recognized by peers at home and abroad in science and engineering, such as scalability, reliability and intensiveness of storage systems, propelling advancements in storage technology on a global scale. He has published ten books, including Computer Architecture and Fundamentals of Computer Applications. His publications include 560 papers published in top international conferences and journals. Academician Zheng has led over more than 50 scientific research and engineering projects funded by national initiatives, such as the 973 Program, the 863 Program, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has also received a plethora of accolades, such as one First Prize and two Second Prizes of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, one Second Prize of the State Technological Invention Award, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Award, the First China Storage Lifetime Achievement Award, and 13 provincial and ministerial-level science and technology advancement awards.

Academician Quanshui Zheng

Academician Quanshui Zheng is an expert in solid mechanics and micro- and nano-mechanics, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a professor at International Graduate School of Tsinghua University. Academician Zheng is dean of the X-Institute, Shenzhen, deputy director of Tsinghua University’s Teaching Committee, the founder and chief professor of the Tsien Excellence in Engineering Program (TEEP, also known as the Tsien Hsue-shen Elite Class in Mechanics), and director of the Institute of Superlubricity Technology at the Research Institute of Tsinghua University in Shenzhen. He served as the head of Tsinghua University’s Department of Engineering Mechanics, secretary-general of Tsinghua University’s Academic Committee, and editor-in-chief of the Chinese Journal of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and the Acta Mechanica Sinica, flagship journals under the auspices of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, of which he was previously vice-president.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Professor Zheng developed the Theory of Constitutive Equations – a comprehensive and in-depth set of theory that was rarely seen in theoretical research in the field – and contributed to the resolution of long-standing problems in classical mechanics that had long baffled the academic community. After 2000, he pioneered the application of structural superlubricity and superlubricity microsystems, as well as the study and application of superhydrophobicity, and dedicated himself to nurture innovative talents. Academician Quanshui Zheng has received funding from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (1995), the National Distinguished Young Scientists (1996), and has been selected as a distinguished professor of the Changjiang Scholars Program by the Ministry of Education (2000). He has also twice – in 2004 and 2017 – won the National Natural Science Award (2nd class, 1st awardee), the First Prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award in 2018, and 2021 Teaching Achievement Award.

Mr. Mark Jiapeng Wang

Mr. Mark Jiapeng Wang is the founder and chairman of the board of the United World Colleges (UWC) Changshu China and the China World Academy (CWA). He is a member of the UWC International Council and holds the position of vice chairman of the Chairs’ Committee, and the chair of the UWC China National Committee. He is also deputy to the 13th and 14th National People’s Congress, vice chair of Suzhou Disabled Persons’ Federation, and a recipient of an honorable mention of the National Self-Improvement Model.

Mr. Wang’s ability to walk was taken away at the age of 12 in an air crash. Through rehabilitation and self-learning, he earned the scholarship and became the first student from mainland China to study at the Red Cross Nordic UWC (RCNUWC).
