CityU visits China Daily to promote international communication and cooperation in language and cultural exchanges

A delegation led by Jun Liu, rector of City University of Macau (CityU), visited China Daily recently and was warmly received by Wang Hao, deputy editor-in-chief of China Daily. Led by Zeng Qingkai, editor-in-chief of 21st Century English Education Media, a subsidiary of China Daily, the delegation toured the display area and facilities to learn about China Daily’s mission, strength, and history. Subsequently, the two parties conducted in-depth exchanges on issues such as international communication, language education and talent training. Zhang Haigang, deputy editor-in-chief of 21st Century English Education Media, Zhou Wanlei and Ip Kuai Peng, CityU’s vice rectors, and Cintia Chan, council member, attended the forum.

At the meeting, Rector Jun Liu introduced CityU’s educational philosophy of promoting digital humanities and interdisciplinary subjects supported by artificial intelligence (AI) and data science, and reviewed the solid foundation of cooperation between the two parties in co-organizing the Global English Education China Assembly. He expressed hope to enhance the cooperation, encouraging mainland students to go to Macao for short-term study, further deepen exchanges and cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries along the “Belt and Road” route, and promote in-depth cooperation between the two parties in different areas such as English education, international communication, and youth exchanges.

Wang Hao, deputy editor-in-chief, conveyed the publisher greetings and expressed his gratitude to CityU for its long-term support to the newspaper, especially the support during the Global English Education China Assembly held in Macao last year. As he pointed out, this year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland. He hopes that the two sides will continue to strengthen cooperation, hold influential conferences and forums, promote exchanges between young people from Macao and the mainland, and share Macao’s successful practice of “one country, two systems” to the outside world.

During the meeting, the two parties reached a preliminary consensus on further establishing a strategic cooperative relationship in the future and will carry out various forms of exchanges and cooperation, such as the Global English Education China Assembly. Moreover, both sides will jointly leverage the Belt and Road Languages and Cultures Network (BRLCN) to promote language as a driving force for social development. Furthermore, two parties are promoting China’s narrative and its stories of youth exchanges, patriotic education, promoting cultural and talent exchanges between Macao and the Mainland.

Participants at the meeting also included Zhuang Gang, manager of Integrated Marketing Department of 21st Century English Education Media; Peng Lun, director of the English Education Institute; Wang Rui, office head, and Kathy Che Ka I, director of Rector’s Office at CityU.
