CityU’s faculty and students embark on patriotic study tour in Nanjing

To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people’s war of resistance against Japanese aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, the Student Affairs Office (SAO) of City University of Macau (CityU) organized the patriotic study tour in Nanjing. Led by Vice Chairwoman Kong Fanqing of the University Council and Vice Rector Ip Kuai Peng, the study tour brought together administrative staff, young faculty, and outstanding student representatives to participate from June 3 to 7.

The activities centered around four main themes: specialized studies, university-wide exchanges, site visits, and cultural experiences. These diverse activities aimed to deepen patriotic education, promote ideological exchange, and share responsibilities between youth in Macao and the mainland. The event received strong support and coordination from the Jiangsu Provincial United Front Work Department, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Jiangsu Province, and the Nanjing Municipal Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office.

The study program visited several important historical memorial sites in Nanjing for learning. At the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall, all faculty and students stood solemnly to pay tribute by offering wreaths and observing a moment of silence, expressing their deep remembrance for the victims with the utmost reverence. Subsequently, the group visited several significant sites to learn about the glory tradition of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), including the Plum Village Memorial Hall, which honored the glorious revolutionary traditions of the Communist Party of China; the John Rabe House, which recorded the heroic actions of international friends; the Memorial Hall of Nanjing Anti-Japanese Aviation Martyrs, commemorating the bravery of wartime heroes; and the Yuhuatai Martyrs Cemetery, showcasing the indomitable spirit of revolutionary martyrs. At the Nanjing Museum, faculty and students gained a systematic understanding of the historical and cultural development of Jiangsu province through valuable artifacts. This series of visits provided participants with a more intuitive and profound understanding of the struggles and spirit of the Chinese nation.

The group also visited Nanjing University and Nanjing University of the Arts, where they were warmly received by Vice President Zou Yajun and Vice President Zhang Jie, respectively. Both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as student exchanges and research collaboration. Vice Rector Ip proposed the idea of jointly applying for research projects and establishing academic platforms, and they also discussed the cultivation of artistic talent and the development of the cultural and creative industries.

Vice Chairwoman Kong Fanqing summarized the trip by stating that this visit to Nanjing was not only a profound lesson in patriotic education but also an impressive dialogue across time and space. From the history of the war of resistance against Japanese aggression to contemporary technological developments, they witnessed the nation’s suffering and glory. She urged students to be guards of history, remembering the hardships and achievements of their nation, while also becoming pioneers of the future by transforming their patriotic sentiments into concrete actions for the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
