The 2023 cohort of students specialized in musicology from the Doctor of Philosophy in Arts Studies program held the Experimental Concert of Macao’s Local Music at the Cultural Centre on the Taipa Campus of City University of Macau (CityU). This was the second concert of its kind, organized by the Faculty of Innovation and Design. Professor Dai Dingcheng served as the director, and Assistant Professor Chan Ka Hou was the choir conductor. The concert featured performances from the entire 2023 class, including chorus, solo, ensemble, and repertoire pieces, as well as some students from the 2022 class. Under the theme of “The Sound-Rhyme of Macao,” this concert showcased traditional music from the local community, as well as works by Macao musicians and those who have resided in the city. Four pieces, including “Macao Is a Great Place,” “This Is Macao,” “Ten Sighs of Poverty,” and “A Narrated Ballad of Autumn Regrets on a Journey,” were created and adapted by the students and faculty of the program, showcasing the efforts of CityU in preserving and developing Macao’s local music culture.
