Congratulations! CityU students win 1st runner-up award at 17th APacCHRIE Youth Conference

The 17th APacCHRIE Youth Conference was recently held in Osaka, Japan. He Chuanyang and Wang Tuanyi, undergraduate students from the Faculty of International Tourism and Management (FITM) at City University of Macau (CityU), submitted their papers under the supervision of Associate Professor Jacey Choe. With solid research outcomes, the team won the 1st runner-up award at the conference.

This 17th APacCHRIE Youth Conference was held concurrently with the 24th APacCHRIE Conference in Osaka, Japan, and was jointly organized by Ritsumeikan University and Hong Kong Polytechnic University. As the Asia-Pacific Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Educational, APacCHRIE has been dedicated to academic, educational and industrial exchange in tourism and hospitality since its establishment in 2002. This year’s conference attracted scholars, industry executives, and young students from universities across various countries and regions, with a total of over 500 paper submissions received.

The awarding winning paper was titled “Improving Satisfaction with Smart Technology Experience and Smart Tourism City Image: Residents and Tourists”. Taking Macao as a case study, the research employed Impact Range-Performance Analysis (IRPA) and Impact Asymmetry Analysis (IA) to examine the effects of 11 smart technology factors on residents’ and tourists’ satisfaction with smart technology experiences and their perception of the smart tourism city image. The study not only demonstrates the academic capabilities of CityU students in tourism and hospitality research, but also reflects FITM’s achievements in promoting undergraduate research, cultivating international visions, and enhancing academic competitiveness. Through participation in international academic conferences, CityU students were able to present their ideas and research findings on global platforms, engage with scholars, industry professionals, and young researchers from diverse regions, and further expand their academic horizons and professional networks.

In addition to the Youth Conference, several faculty members and students from FITM also attended the 24th APacCHRIE Conference. Professor Peng Kang Lin; Associate Professor Jacey Choe; Assistant Professors Vivian Wu, Bingna Lin, Joanne Lin; Guo Renyu, Lucille Chang and doctoral students conducted academic exchanges with renowned academics both at home and abroad to further strengthen CityU academic impact in tourism and hospitality education and research.
