Invited by the Faculty of Management (FOM), City University of Macau, Dr Raymond Choy, founder and president of Toy2R, attended the Greater China Business Forum and delivered a seminar on “The New Concept of Entrepreneurship and Creative Thinking” on 24th May 2013.
Apart from being the founder and president of Toy2R as well as design director of the brand “Qee”, Dr Choy is also the co-chairperson of China Affairs Committee of The International Association of Lions Clubs District 303 – Hong Kong & Macao, China; member of The HKTDC Design, Marketing & Licensing Services Advisory Committee; and member of Industry and Technology Committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.
Dr Choy shared his entrepreneurial experience and business success with the audience. As an entrepreneur who turned his own interest into business, he suggested that one’s interest serves as the basis for setting up a business because it can help increase one’s motivation and persistence. Subsequently, it is important to set clear business goals that you want to achieve within a defined period of time in order to ensure your aspirations and motivation stay high. In addition, it is advisable to adopt Blue Ocean Strategy in such a way to differentiate your own business from competitors. Finally, a business should provide customised products that would represent the brand and appeal to different customer needs. Also, Dr Choy stressed the importance of creative thinking in achieving business success. Entrepreneur should always come up with creative ideas that keep pace with the times, and more importantly, respond to market changes and the introduction of new products. In other words, innovation is crucial to a business’s continued growth and competitive edge.
Dr Choy also presented a range of Toy2R products co-branded with other brands and celebrities, which completely kept the audience engaged. The students actively participated in the seminar and came up with questions to get the discussion going. Before the end of the seminar, Dr Choy took pictures with the FOM lecturers and students. Some of the students expressed that the ideas introduced in the seminar have provoked their creative thinking. They hope they could broaden their horizons through attending more seminars given by guest speakers from the industry.
