First Issue Ceremony of "Journal of Social & Economic Development" and "Report of Social & Economic Development of Macao 2012" a Resounding Success

The First Issue Ceremony of "Journal of Social & Economic Development" and "Report of Social & Economic Development of Macao 2012" was held in the Lotus Room of World Trade Centre Macau on April 14^th, 2013. Both the Journal and the Report were published by the Research Centre for Macau Social and Economic Development of City University of Macau & Liaoning University, a Key Research Base for Humanities and Social Sciences under the Ministry of Education. The Ceremony was attended by government officials, community leaders and experts and scholars from relevant fields of studies, including Mr. Liu Xiaohang, Chief of the Culture and Education Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macau S.A.R.; Ms. Chen Ling, Representative of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of PRC in Macau S.A.R.; Mr. He Jian, Representative of the Office of Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education; Mr. Wu Zhiliang, President of the Administration Counsel of Macao Foundation; Mr. Sou Chio Fai, Director of the Tertiary Education Services Office of the Macau S.A.R. Government; Mr. Leong Heng Teng, Vice-Chairman of the Macau Cultural Industries Council; Mr. Chui Sai Peng, Director General of Chinese Cultural Exchange Association and Macau Member of the 12^th National People's Congress; Mr. Chan Meng Kam, Chairman of the Executive Council of the Foundation of City University of Macau; Prof. Yan Zexian, Rector of City University of Macau and Prof. Huang Taiyan, President of Liaoning University. Also in attendance were Prof. Xing Wenxiang, Vice-Rector of City University of Macau and Director of the Research Centre for Macau Social and Economic Development; Prof. Li Jiazeng, Executive Director of the Research Centre; Prof. Xu Lingzhi, Chairman of Chinese & Western Cultural Creative Industries Promotion Association (Macao); Prof. Fan Zhou, Director General of Cross-strait Cultural & Creative Industries University Research Alliance and Dean of the R&D Centre of Cultural & Creative Industry of Communication University of China; Prof. Ouyang Youquan, Director of Macau Research Institute for Cultural Industries and Dean of the School of Liberal Arts of Central South University.

Both the Journal and the Report were the results of hard work by all the scholars of the Research Centre for Macau Social and Economic Development, accomplished under the full support of Liaoning University. They were the first gifts presented to the Macau public by the Research Centre since its establishment a year and a half ago. This marked the official debut of the Research Centre into Macau’s academic circle; from now on, the Research Centre would begin to shoulder more vital tasks for the Macau society. As remarked by one of the scholars: today indicated a starting point, from which onwards City University of Macau will conduct more scientific researches and undertake more social responsibilities.
